I was luckily enough to attend Gelato Messina’s Gelato Appreciation Class for the second time thanks to Google Local Sydney. Disclaimer that I work for Google, but if you aren’t already writing reviews on Google Local, I highly encourage you to follow Google Local Sydney and checkout some of the great contests and events they put on. The Gelato Messina class was one of the recent contest prizes. I didn’t enter the contest, but I was lucky enough to come along as a Googler guest!
Fellow gelato-lover, Ryan, joined me!
See our post from when we attended back in June for more details on the classes, but they have definitely stepped up their game since then. The class still takes place in their Rozelle factory, but they’ve rearranged the class layout to make it less of an instructional and more of a dessert degustation. There were six beautifully plated and presented courses:
Course #1: “The Gelato Messina Gin & Tonic” – Cucumber Sorbet with Juniper and Rose Cremeux, and a Gin Jelly
Course #2: “One Effed Up Ice Cream Sandwich” – Duck Fat Caramel, Peanut Nougatine Gelato and Sable/Caramel Chocolate
Course #3: White Chocolate Gelato, Hazelnut Crunch, and Truffle Cream
Course #4: “Corn Three Ways” – Sweet Corn Gelato, Corn & Vanilla Creme Brulee, and Caramel Popped Corn
Course #5: “Duck My Cherry” – Foie Gras Powder, Cherry Sorbet with an Amaretto Shot
Course #6: “Pavlova on It’s Ass” – Deep-fried Passionfruit Curd, Freeze-dried rasberries, Burnt Vanilla Gelato
Bonus Bits: Peach Melba Bombe Alaska and of course a trip back to the Darlo store to try all the flavours we wanted
