Nomad, Surry Hills

Add this to your must-try list immediately and make a booking while you still can – this place is amazing.

We came here for McKay’s birthday celebration this past Saturday. I won’t lie…was a bit worried. Normally when I invite a bunch of our friends anywhere…at least half drop off or can’t make it, but not the case this time! Everyone was out to celebrate the man and his ‘stache – all 22 of us. I researched several weeks in advance to try and find a venue that could accommodate us and by a stroke of luck came upon newly opened Nomad while perusing Gourmet Traveller’s Hot Plates feature. We are incredibly happy with the choice and recommend it for any group size two to over twenty!

We did the “Feed Me” menu which, at the time of booking was $55/person. When we were charged the new price of $65/person – I was a bit confused, but didn’t think much of it. When they sent an email to me on Sunday requesting feedback – I mentioned the price confusion and they offered to refund us the $10 extra per person – taking full responsibility for the mistake – amazing! That being said – our guests were all commenting that $55/person was such amazing value for what we got so $65/person seems a more appropriate price.

My favourite things about this place:

  • The Space – beautifully done and incredibly spacious. Acoustics were perfect – our 22 person group didn’t feel like we were taking over the restaurant. There was a spacious bar area where we were able to order drinks (charged to the table) and hang out while we waited for our table to be ready.
  • The Service – our waitress could not have been more lovely. She was attentive to each guests needs and while we were a pretty easy table – no food allergies, happy to share whatever wine was chosen, etc – it’s still no easy task to have a table that large and make it look easy.
  • The Food – everything was amazing and we left all feeling perfectly full, but not overstuffed. Standout dishes were the BBQ Carrots with almond dukkah,  and labne, House made Charcuterie selection, the tomato salad, the Haloumi with raisins and eggplant, and the Lamb main course – all were amazing!
  • The Wine – they have a fabulous wine menu with something for everyone. We had a selection of their reds and were pleased with them all. Great cocktails also!

The only gripe I had was the price confusion, but they remedied that without a fuss so I would give this place a 10 out of 10 for sure.
