Tipping Not Neccesary

Just another FYI for you future expats or those of you coming out here for a visit – Sydney is EXPENSIVE. It’s crazy how quickly you adjust and find yourself thinking that a $20 6-pack of beer is “cheap”, but when we first moved here we were a little shocked by the prices.

This tip seems rather obvious having lived here now for nearly 5 months, but Sydney seems even more expensive when you are unaware that tipping isn’t necessary. You are not expected to tip. Period. Not in cabs, not at restaurants, not your hair dresser. Prices are slightly more inflated in order to make up for lack of tip.

The only time when it is normal to tip is when you are having a nice dinner in a sit down restaurant and you have exceptional service. In this situation – 10% is considered a normal tip.
