All I can say is – new favorite restaurant alert!! We came here with my brother, sister-in-law, and friend Christine for an early birthday celebration. There was nothing I didn’t like about this place. Everything we had was delicious and service was impeccable.
We initially thought that the menu was tapas style, but it’s actually more of a degustation where you you have the ability to choose which dished you have and how many. Our waiter recommended that we each order three, which was plenty. We could have probably done two each and maybe shared one more, but I’m glad we got the three because each one was just as delicious as the next. We also did the paired wines. I started off with the seared sea scallop, asparagus tempura, lotus root, samphire and wasabi avocado ($28). Amazing mix of flavours and textures.
My second course was the crispy pork belly ($29). Recommend. Definitely recommend.
Third course was the braised beef ($31). If my stomach were as big as my eyes, I would have eaten the entire thing.
McKay started off with the Snake Bean Cakes.
And the swordfish.
And then there was dessert…I can’t remember what this first one was called, but it was like an apple tart type thing that was cinnamony and delicious.
This dessert – called “Gaytime Goes Nuts” – was the one that everyone had told us to get in advance. It is amazing…
…but I actually loved this dessert – “bite the pillow” – even more. It has the tart flavours and sweetness of an eton mess. SO amazing.
What a fabulous birthday!
